I figure there are some people on here I have not talked to in a long time, some I would like to re-connect at some level with and hopefully they are still around and will read this. If you are one of those people shoot me a line!
Well since 2005 and my last journal post I have been doing quite a bit. As I mentioned I did intern at Oops animation and was picked up full time in January of 2006 as a full time artist. I was at Oops until July of 2007. It had its ups and downs but it was an amazing learning experience and I had the great privilege of working with some fine people, most of which I am still good friends with to this day. I learned a lot of what to do, what not to do, what to expect from a supervisor and what to demand and walk out the door if certain things happen. I learned a lot.
At Oops I worked on quite a wide range of projects. Some of which can still be seen on the website for Oops. We did medical animations, religious music videos with all 3d characters and environments. I worked a bit on the History Channel tv show MonsterQuest. However most of the stuff I worked on had revisions and was altered after I left in July so not a whole lot made it to the show.
After Oops I had a nice stint where I had nothing to do for about a week. It was the first time I had been unemployed since 1998 so it was unique. but not long after that I got picked up by a studio in Minneapolis called Ham in the Fridge.
At Ham I worked on some really cool projects. This was me feeling my way through freelancing. I worked on the adultswim.com games "Fairway to Hell" and "5 Minutes to Kill Yourself 2" On Fairway I was the lead modeler for all 3d props and characters in the game. When it came to 5mtky2 I did way more props and way more characters. Caitlin helped me when crunch time came in. I also worked with Ham on a Target internal video for Easter. It were these little yellow ball bird things hopping around. If you were in a target store back in 2007 around easter they were hard to miss.
I also had the joy of working with ReelFX in Texas on several film and commercial projects. I Have been doing quite a bit of skinning work for them. (part of the rigging process)
I started out doing one character in the movie Open Season 2. Its a pug character that is on screen for all of like 6 seconds but I got my name in the credits. It was my first movie bit. so hoorah! I followed that up with the skinning of Melman for Madagascar 2 commercials for mcdonalds. It was fun to work on that character. I also started working under Jason Osipa (writer of stop staring and awesome guy). I continued my skinning work with a new movie that I dont think I can quite talk about yet. I skinned about 5 or 6 characters for that. now not just background characters but ones that will be featured and main characters. Exciting times.
I also began to teach 3d modeling and animation at Northwestern College in St. Paul minnesota. That has been a real treat. I love teaching and look forward to doing it. I have been there for a little over a year.
From January 2008 - August 2008 I worked at Flurry Animation Studios in Eden Prairie working on the "Read and Share Bible" which was a few direct to dvd bible stories that were all animated in a very cool style. I again got to work with amazing people. Flurry was a blast and it was one of those love to go to work kinda places. Great team, great project, just a lot of fun. I worked on something like 8 or 9 episodes. i really cant remember.
Caitlin and I got married at the end of August of 2008. It was a blast. We had a great wedding that couldn't have gone better. We followed that up with a nice cruise to Alaska. We both fell in love with that state and look forward to going back.
Cait and I live in a nice townhouse out in Rosemount. We have been there for a while now and are enjoying it. Not long into November, Cait's company had massive layoffs. all said and done it dropped about 50 percent of its workforce, including caits whole department. We both struggled to find work in the last quarter of 2008. Luckily I have gotten busy again but cait is still looking.
Now here we are in 2009. Cait and I have a dog named buddy, a nice corgi. I am currently doing a contract stint at Hybrid Medical Animation and still have a few freelance things on the side. Still teaching, still trying to get something a little more concrete and full time. I hope hybrid works out because this place is a hoot. As much as i liked flurry it just keeps getting better.
So yeah, thats the quick version of the last 3ish years I hope I didnt bore ya.
Iffin you want to say hello and we havnt talked in a while, drop me a line.
